bmw

USB, MP3, LCD, DVD, Voice recognition, Bluetooth…very interesting product from BMW. I can”™t wait to see how they have managed to integrate this product into their cars. So is this the year, when we all can say, “œYes I can afford a new BMW”!

blogfiction

So here is a few links worth a visit:

Mr. Link Just found this picture on tveskov.com. Mr Tveskov is by no comparison the #1 link Master in Denmark. If you know a little Danish, do check out his blog.

Mr. Skype First came Skype, next big thing…Venice? One of the founders of Skype, Janus Friis is working on a new project where the idea is to combine TV and web. Not much info on his blog, but keep an eye on the project, I´m sure it will be worth waiting for.

Mr. Evangelist Guy Kawasaki, former evangelist at Apple, now blogs about pretty much everything, and he does it very well. His blog is number 50 in the blogosphere.

The King of Public Service

For a long time I’ve listened to DR’s radio magazine, Harddisken as a Podcast. It has been one of my favourite tools to keep up with the development in the digital world. However, not long ago a friend of mine introduced me to the real thing, Digital Planet by BBC. It is the equivalent to Harddisken but as in so many other ways BBC really knows how to make public service programs. Tjeck it out and see if you like it better than Harddisken.

When a concept writes itself

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

A series of newspaper ads from Saatchi & Saatchi, Italy, have been celebrated at the ADCI Awards. The ads are for a sale on Mondadori Books ““ a sale with a 30% discount.

The ads are praised for their brilliant copywriting, however, isn”™t this a case of an idea or concept that basically writes its own copy?

Maybe it is just a matter of what you call different processes. In 1508 we would consider the Mondadori ads to be a concept rather than writing. Once the (really good) idea of combining a 30% discount with the title of famous books is conceived the writing is mostly a matter of finding titles and using a calculator. Still great ads, though.

P.S. ADCI = Art Directors Club Italiano (“œwarning” the site is in Italian).

A perfect Power Point!

USER USER USER USER USER USER

Everybody is talking about it, User Centered Design, User driven design, User driven innovation… Well the buzzwords are plenty. But it’s all about involving the end user in the design process of your new product. The Danish Innovation Company, Innovation Lab has just put this way of designing on the top of their R&D / Design HOTLIST of ’06.

Lego, world famous Danish company, is on the cutting edge with this way of designing. They have started making end users design the toys of tomorrow. Check it out!

If you are the reading kind of person, you can learn a lot about user driven innovation from FORA. If you do, you too can be part off the buzz.

A missed opportunity

Friday, October 13th, 2006

Denmark is a nation of newspaper readers, and we certainly read a lot compared to other European countries. There is a great variety of newspapers and a long, proud tradition of independent journalism. Lately the Danes have been enriched by three free morning papers. Two of them suddenly popped up to give the long awaited Icelandic version some serious competition.

The truly disappointing thing is that the publishers have failed to embrace the huge innovative potentials at hand. The list of new progressive media concepts world-wide is long and the emphasis is generally on user involvement, flexibility and cross media solutions. Korean OhMyNews is an excellent example of citizen journalism being both very competitive and also showing great integrity and high journalistic quality. Several (especially american) printed and digital news media use both photos, video and articles from their users. Their credibility is not necessarily compromised ““ actually it seems that a lot of readers prefer to receive the information straight from the source.

Every online trend points towards more focus on social aspects, involving the users (readers) and providing them with dynamic, individually adjusted content.

In that perspective it is disappointing to watch the two largest Danish newspaper publishing houses release such unambitious and almost identical newspapers. This could have been a golden opportunity to experiment with technology, services and concepts. The only paper that is just vaguely interested in developing the media is Nyhedsavisen who also spend more than just a couple of days on developing the design. The integrated blogs and comment features won’t impeach Bush, but it’s a start though. Also they are the only ones really claiming to have an ambitious journalistic profile.

It could all have been so exciting, but instead the paperboys now go on a daily trip to the beach to burn the pile of papers we don’t really want.
